Nicholas is a partner in the Regina office and focuses on professional liability defense, insurance defense, and privacy law.
Nicholas is a member of McKercher’s Health Law Practice Group and Insurance Defence Practice Group. His practice concentrates on professional liability defence, construction claims, aviation claims, product liability claims, and professional discipline. He has represented numerous professionals in legal actions and regulatory matters, including lawyers, physicians, engineers, financial advisors, accountants, realtors, insurance agents, physiotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and educators. Nicholas also assists clients with privacy law, particularly in relation to personal health information.
He has appeared at all levels of Court in Saskatchewan and before numerous tribunals and panels. He is qualified as a Mediator by the Law Society of Saskatchewan. He was honoured with a Queen’s Counsel appointment in 2018.
Nicholas has provided pro bono legal assistance through the Regina Free Legal Clinic since 2006. Nicholas has played an active role with the Regina Bar Association since 2004, serving as a Director and Vice-President and then two terms as President from 2006 – 2008. He is an instructor at the CPLED Bar course and a presenter at various legal education seminars. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan. In 2018 – 2019, Nicholas was President of the Canadian Bar Association – Saskatchewan Branch.
Awards & Recognition
Nicholas was the recipient of the 2022 Victor P. Dietz, K.C. Pro Bono Service Award, which is presented jointly every year by the Law Society of Saskatchewan and Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan. The recipient is recognized for contributions to Pro Bono services in Saskatchewan with respect to delivery of Pro Bono legal services, assisting with the establishment of Pro Bono programs, and education and advocacy to promote a Pro Bono culture.
Nicholas has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers™ in Canada 2025 in the fields of (1) Medical Negligence, (2) Personal Injury Litigation, and (3) Professional Malpractice Law. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 2021.
