Bruce is a partner in the Saskatoon office where he practices in all areas of corporate and commercial law as well as construction and infrastructure law/project development. 

Bruce is a commercial lawyer in the Saskatoon office focusing in the area of project development, construction and business acquisitions. As co-chair of the Construction and Infrastructure Practice Group, Bruce provides strategic advice on procurement and project delivery models and is particularly sought after to negotiate and draft the various agreements necessary for the development and ongoing operation of public, commercial and industrial facilities. Bruce is a trusted advisor to many industrial and crown corporations in Saskatchewan, providing commercial agreements and practical solutions to operational challenges. 

Bruce also advises clients throughout Canada in the sale, acquisition or financing of commercial and real estate assets. This typically involves advising clients on legal and commercial issues, conducting due diligence on target assets, and negotiating purchase and sale agreements. He prides himself on providing commercial sensibilities and being accessible and responsive to clients’ needs. 

Bruce is a two-time Guinness World Record holder and was the Most Distinguished Graduate in Business Economics at the University of Saskatchewan. He earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria in 2009, practiced in the Global Mining Group of an international law firm and was in-house counsel for a major mining company before coming to McKercher LLP. 

Bruce enjoys spending time with his wife Trina, sons Robbie and William, and daughter Elizabeth. He is a former member of the Kelowna Rockets and U of S Huskie hockey teams, and now mans the point for the Farmer’s Hailstones (ASHL) but he has clearly lost a step. 

Representative Experience

  • Advised clients, 101211205 Saskatchewan Ltd., a subsidiary of North Atlantic Potash Inc., on the sale of Crown potash lease KL 279 and associated exploration results in Saskatchewan to Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc., a potash business unit within Nutrien Ltd. 
  • Advised the Design Build joint venture in the negotiation and contracts to build the $635 million Saskatchewan Joint Use Schools P3 Project. 
  • Prepared Project Agreements for a major post-secondary institution in the construction and operation of a $33 million twin-pad ice facility. 
  • Advised a leading international mining company in the acquisition of lands related to rail construction and mine development. 
  • Negotiated and prepared agreements on behalf of two First Nations in the acquisition of a Saskatoon-based steel fabrication contractor 
  • Advised a leading international mining company in the restructuring of its Saskatchewan surface and mineral parcel holdings. 
  • Advised a major post-secondary institution on the procurement and construction of a federally funded $63 million science and research building. 
  • Advised major crown electrical utility in the preparation of cost recovery agreements to recoup capital costs to service private and public developments.
