A Century Serving Saskatchewan
October 5, 2026

In 1926, The Honourable Emmett M. Hall, KC, established a law practice in Saskatoon that would eventually become McKercher LLP.
One hundred years later, our firm is proud to celebrate a centenary milestone made possible by the generations of clients, lawyers, staff, and community partners who have been part of our story.
While much has changed over the past 100 years, one thing has remained constant. McKercher LLP's commitment to providing trusted legal advice, practical solutions, and client-focused service.
Built on Strong Foundations
The story of McKercher LLP begins with one of Saskatchewan's most influential legal figures. After establishing his Saskatoon law practice in 1926, Emmett M. Hall, KC, would later go on to serve as Chief Justice of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench and later the Supreme Court of Canada.
As Saskatchewan grew, so did the firm. Percy H. Maguire, KC, joined the practice after 1935, expanding the firm’s solicitor's work before later being appointed to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal. James B. Wedge joined after 1949, broadening the firm's capabilities.
These early leaders helped establish a trusted practice that continues to define McKercher LLP today. As Saskatchewan's communities, businesses, agricultural operations, and institutions developed throughout the twentieth century, the firm grew alongside them, helping clients navigate legal challenges and opportunities across generations.
A Tradition of Leadership
Throughout its history, lawyers of the firm have helped shape various Saskatchewan legal and public institutions.
Members of the firm have gone on to serve as judges at every level of the Saskatchewan court system, including the Court of Appeal, the Court of King's Bench, and the Provincial Court. Others have served in public office, including the roles of Saskatchewan's Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
These accomplishments reflect a long-standing tradition of leadership, professionalism, and public service that extends beyond the practice of law.
Evolving to Meet Saskatchewan's Needs
Donald S. McKercher, KC, joined the firm in 1957 after articling under Emmett M. Hall, KC. In 1961, Robert H. McKercher, KC, followed, after gaining valuable courtroom experience in Ontario. Their arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter in the firm's history and established a legacy that continues today.
As new lawyers joined the partnership and assumed leadership roles, the firm's name evolved to reflect each generation's contribution to its growth and success:

- McKercher McKercher & Stack
- McKercher McKercher Stack Korchin & Laing

Each name represents a generation of lawyers who expanded the firm's capabilities, strengthened its reputation, and prepared it for the future.
Over the years, new generations of lawyers and Partners have shaped the firm with their knowledge and experience in various areas of practice.
The firm also continued to evolve internally. In 1990, Christine J. Glazer, KC, became the firm's first female partner.
For decades, the firm has worked with clients through periods of transition and uncertainty, providing guidance on matters that shape businesses, protect family interests, support economic development, and strengthen communities.
Stability Through Change
Over the years, McKercher LLP has welcomed new lawyers, developed new practice areas, expanded into new markets, invested in new facilities, and embraced new leadership.
Most recently, the firm entered a new chapter with the relocation of its Saskatoon office, the succession of the Chief Operating Officer, and the appointment of a new Chair of the Executive Committee.
These changes represent something important about McKercher LLP's history. The firm's history demonstrates that stability is not the absence of change. Rather, it comes from thoughtfully adapting to meet the needs of clients and communities while remaining grounded in the values that have guided the firm from the beginning.
Throughout its history, McKercher LLP has balanced continuity with renewal, drawing on generations of experience while continuing to invest in the future.
Community Engagement Through the Years
For the last century, McKercher LLP has been more than a place where legal services are provided. As a Saskatchewan-founded and focused firm, we have long believed that strong communities are built through active participation, meaningful partnerships, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
This commitment has taken many forms, including volunteerism, board leadership, charitable giving, sponsorships, and the giving of time to pro bono legal services. Other notable long-standing initiatives include the past Gift of Warmth program, which supported Saskatchewan families during the holiday season, to the more recent creation of the McKercher LLP Community Fund, which invests in charitable and non-profit organizations making a meaningful difference throughout the province.
Looking Ahead
For our clients, this milestone of 100 years of service is about more than our history.
It reflects the relationships, trust, and confidence that generations of Saskatchewan people, businesses, organizations, municipalities, Indigenous communities, non-profit organizations, and institutions have placed in our firm.
As we begin our second century, clients can be confident that while the firm will continue to evolve, our commitment to them remains unchanged. The investments we make today, whether in our people, our leadership, or our facilities, are guided by the same objective that has shaped McKercher LLP for generations: providing practical legal advice and exceptional service to the people, businesses, and organizations that place their trust in us.
Change is inevitable, whether physical, organizational, or within the legal industry itself.
What remains constant is our dedication to delivering practical legal advice, responsive service, and solutions that help our clients move forward with confidence.
For 100 years, McKercher LLP has assisted Saskatchewan people, businesses, organizations, and institutions to navigate change, seize opportunities, and plan for the future.
We look forward to continuing that work for generations to come.
