Is a patient’s personal health information private? Can a patient access his or her medical records?

Generally speaking, pursuant to the Health Information Protection Act of Saskatchewan, a patient’s personal health information is private and cannot be disclosed without the patient’s consent.  A patient also has a right to access their personal health information by making a request to his or her health care provider.  A patient may have to pay a reasonable fee if they request a copy of his or her records.
