McKercher LLP helps out Haiti with pro bono immigration applications

Posted: February 1, 2010

As part of the firm’s ongoing pro bono initiatives, McKercher LLP has joined the Canadian Bar Association's Citizenship & Immigration law Section initiative to offer initial legal consultations and to prepare immigration applications - without charge - for Canadian and permanent residents in Saskatchewan who wish to sponsor family members affected by the recent earthquake disaster in Haiti.

"Lawyers have training to help people in dire circumstances and our firm is just not prepared to withhold services to families simply because they can't afford our fees," said David Stack in a story for the Regina Leader-Post.

"We've been providing pro-bono services to Saskatchewan communities since our law firm was established in 1926, but in light of the horrendous crisis, we're extending those efforts to help Haitian families."

Immigration lawyers from across the country are offering to consult and assist Canadians and permanent residents in Canada to complete documents in the context of the Government of Canada's special immigration measures program.
