COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

Community involvement has always been a priority for the lawyers and staff. Members of the Firm have served and continue to serve on numerous Boards and in public office, and have volunteered for a multitude of charitable causes. We are committed to supporting local, provincial, and national non-profit organizations, providing both financial support and countless volunteer hours.

Women’s Practice Group

The Women’s Practice Group, which was formed by members of the Firm in 1994, is dedicated to the development and promotion of women in business and in the community. The group meets regularly and provides mentoring, presents seminars, hosts social gatherings with other women’s groups, and sponsors events within the community. The group hosts an annual Women’s Golf Tournament, which is popular with both clients and friends.

Pro Bono Initiatives

The Firm has a strong history of commitment to pro bono services in the community. Pro bono work is an important aspect of the history of professionalism of the practice of law and represents an admirable tradition within the legal profession. The tradition recognizes the contribution that members of the profession are able, often uniquely, to make for the benefit of those disadvantaged in our society and the organizations that serve them, for advancing issues of public interest and concern and for improving our legal system for the benefit of all in our community.

McKercher LLP is committed to playing a leading role in providing these contributions. As one of the original signatories of the Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan (PBLS) Pledge, McKercher LLP has approved a firm policy to encourage and support the participation by all its lawyers in pro bono public activities through the firm’s financial and supervisory support and which unequivocally states the firm’s commitment to pro bono work.

Saskatchewan is the fourth jurisdiction in Canada to adopt a coordinated approach to pro bono service delivery.

McKercher LLP has developed this policy in accordance with the Pledge to encourage and recognize pro bono work by its lawyers and to support PBLS programs. The firm is committed to providing high quality pro bono legal services according to the same standards of dedication, excellence and professional ethics as paid legal services.
